baby hatsBaby hats serve so many purposes.  They are used to block the sun, keep baby’s head warm and complete an outfit when they’re all dressed up.  Most babies don’t like anything on their head so it’s important to get a hat the fits well and doesn’t irritate.

In the summer, you want to find nice, lightweight cotton hats to keep the head cool and soak up any moisture from baby’s skin.  In winter, an organic sherpa or fleece or knit hat is perfect for warmth and comfort.  It mustn’t fit too tightly or it will put pressure on the delicate skull.  Make sure there are no irritations inside the hat from decorations or embroidery that has been done with nylon thread.

When you’re buying a baby hat, keep comfort in mind. Try to find a hat that is made from a soft and washable material, such as organic cotton. As you know, babies have a way of dirtying everything so the easier it is for you to wash, the less work baby hatsyou’ll have to do. Cashmere is great for comfort but you’ll be spending a lot of time and money at the dry cleaners to maintain that type of hat. Not a good idea at all, really, as the cleaning will leave a residue of chemicals in the fabric and will transfer to the little head.

You can also look for hats with straps or ties to keep the hat on your baby’s head. Even if your baby is too young to take the hat off, they can still squirm around and before you know it, the hat is over his or her head face.  It is important that baby hats not be tight and putting pressure on the delicate bones of baby’s head.
