There are a variety of things that you can try to make it easier on everyone involved when the time has come to offer your child a bed instead of a crib. Once you’ve determined that it is time to abandon the crib, set a time-frame for the transitorganic baby pillowion period. The reason for doing this is that it is often easier for the child if they see a bed set up in their room for a couple days while they continue to go to sleep in their own crib. This allows them to mentally adjust to it.

We all know that it is not a good idea for a tiny baby to have a pillow but now you might offer an organic baby pillow in the new bed.  These are smaller than the adult ones and just right for carrying around.

Children usually transition from their crib to a bed between the ages of 18 months and 36 months according to experts. If they are not climbing out of the crib yet, there is no need to rush it.

organic baby pillowAn organic baby pillow is one that is just the right size for a child of two years or more. Before this age, use of a pillow of any type is considered dangerous and is not recommended.

Baby pillows are about half the size of a standard adult pillow.  They have their own special pillow cases that are made to fit.

No child of two up to five or six years of age simply cannot sleep comfortably on a large standard adult pillow. Their necks and shoulders will not be comfortable because the pillow will be too large and thick. The baby special pillows allow your child’s head, neck and shoulders to be supported just like yours but in a size proportional to their smaller body.

About Baby Pillows

organic baby pillowThere are numerous expert opinions on why babies do not require pillows and how dangerous pillows can be for their health. Most of these judgments overstate the dangers. It is a fact that children less than one year old do not usually need pillows. In some cases, the pillows may not be safe for the baby’s health. Past that age, using a baby pillow is no more harmful and can actually help your baby sleep better.

The skull is quite soft during the formative years. Keeping baby’s head in one side for long periods when sleeping may result in the skull being deformed or lopsided. Sleeping on the back can lead to the same thing. Using a baby pillow can help prevent this and provides the necessary support to the head. Choosing the right kind of pillow is vital. Feather pillows are not a good idea as baby may develop an allery to the feathers.  An extra soft pillow is not recommended, either, as the head can sink in and the mouth and nostrils be blocked.  Choose an organic baby pillow made especially crib sized and thin enough to be safe.

Most mattresses are made of PVC, polyester, and foam. They are then doused with flame-retardant chemicals and PBDE’s. These chemicals have been banned by the state of California as of 2008.

Here is an alternative – organic cotton and wool mattresses and organic baby mattress pad of the highest quality possible.  Completely chemical and toxin free.

These  organic cotton and wool baby mattresses and mattress pads are CPSC approved and completely safe. There are two different styles of organic cotton and wool baby mattresses to choose from: Innerspring or Natural Rubber. The mattress pads are made to fit perfectly.

Both styles of organic cotton and wool baby mattresses are the standard 6″ thick and meet all safety requirements set forth by the CPSC. Both feature a wool layer quilted to the organic cotton outer for natural flame retardancy to meet federal guidelines.

You can buy an organic cotton and wool baby mattress and pad and guarantee that your baby will not be exposed to chemicals that have been proven to reduce breathing and are implicated in SIDS.

child pillowsI’ve found these child’s pillows that are safe and just right ot fit side by side on twin bed for those snuggly siblings.  They measure 14″ x 20″ and so are easy to carry around and fully washable -  just the right size for a child to feel like they have their very own pillow – not one of moms and dads.

There is the new shredded natural rubber pillow.   It is comfortable and easy to care for, in child size – 14 x 20″ – and the best part is you can wash it if it gets ucky or stinky.

There is also the lightly filled one with wool and organic cotton outer.  These are light fill because most children don’t need pillows – they just think as they grow up, they should have one.
