Easy Clean-Ups with Duvet Covers

I try to say this every chance I get. Try to get a comforter with a duvet cover. It will keep the comforter clean and make washing a breeze. Traditional comforters usually come with ‘dry clean only’ instructions. Save a few bucks by outfitting your comforters with a duvet cover.

This will be great for all kinds of comforters. But I can imagine that it will be most advantageous for toddler bed comforter sets. We know how toddlers can mess up. They climb up the bed with dirty feet and they like to play with their toys on the bed. With duvet covers on their comforters, clean up will be easy.

Comforter sets come in a wide variety of styles, patterns and materials so you need to determine your needs before going out and buying one. You can narrow down your choice by looking for comforter sets that will fit your bed. For twin sized beds, you will need twin comforter sets. You need to find out if the comforter set that you will buy will include pillow cases.

Comforter sets usually include the comforter itself, a bed skirt, and pillow cases or what they also call shams. The bed skirt hides the box spring and gap between the bed and the floor. You may opt to choose a comforter set with no bed skirt to lower the cost. Shams are decorated pillowcases with a frill or extended seam. The bed skirt and the shams are usually of the same pattern as the comforter.

My Little Football Fan

A lot of kids love football, including mine. He always says he’d like to play football when he grows up. He and his dad always watch games together on TV. Those are good bonding moments for them because my husband patiently explains how the game is played to our son. These days, I no longer hear so many questions because our little one seems to have finally understood what’s going on in every game.

My son’s love for football is evident in the things he asks us to buy for him. His room is decorated with NFL bedding. His school bag and lunch box have football themes. He even collects those little dolls of his favorite football players.

Beddings For Self-Expression

Beds are an important element in a person’s home. This is where a person can rest after a long day at work or where a girl can cry and find solace after having her heart broken. It can also be a way to express a person’s personality, depending on the design of the sheets. Some people may like plain sheets, but others want them to be filled with prints flowers or their favorite characters.

When my son wanted to have his room re-done, he asked if I could buy him new bed sheets. I took him to the mall and went to a store that sold bedding for boys. We looked around until he saw what he liked – a sports-themed bedding set that had prints of baseballs, basketballs and footballs on it. I was amused by his choice since I’m a sports fan myself, so I didn’t even think twice.

mattressWe adults need a good mattress to sleep properly so it stand to reason that a newborn baby also needs a good mattress because they spend so much more time on a mattress than adults do. So, which crib mattress is really the best for newborns?  There a lot of options out there if you go scouring the market for good finds.

Baby Organic Crib Sheets

organic crib sheetsIt is a fact that babies sleep for about 70% of their first year.  If you are an aware parent, you will have checked out everything in your baby’s nursery room for comfort and safety.  Since they spend so much time in the crib, it is important that they not be exposed to toxins from the sheets or the mattress you’ve chosen.

Cotton makes up the majority of the bedding. Studies have been done to detect how long chemicals used to grow and treat cotton last in the treated fabric, as in ordinary cotton.  The results are not good.  On the other hand, chemical-free organic cotton fabric involves no chemicals from the time it’s grown in a field to when it’s made into a fabric.  It is inspected all the way and has to meet rigorous standards. You’re better off choosing organic crib sheets for the health of your baby.

Choosing the Right Toddler Sheets

toddler sheetsIt’s a good idea to always check the size of the bed you’re planning the sheets for as some beds are full sized twin mattresses, while some are smaller sized and others can be somewhere in between.  After knowing the bed’s size, you must know what kind of toddler sheets to get for your child.

I suggest seriously looking at getting organic cotton sheets as they are not only safer for your child to have next to their skin for 8-10 hours but they will also wash and wear wonderfully and last longer. Cheap sheets usually won’t hold up to frequent washings and with any child you can count on washing  them a lot more frequently than with older children.

When you’ve picked out a couple of designs online, have your child take a look and choose.  This will help to meet their approval. While it might seem like a little thing, it can go a long way to making sure they are comfortable with the choice.

Foam or Coil Baby Crib Mattress

organic baby mattressWhen choosing a mattress for your baby’s crib, try to find a reasonably firm one.  Adults like to think a softer one would be more comfortable for the little one but there is a problem for a baby.  If they get turned over, their face will sink into the softeness and they will be unable to move themselves into a better position.  It’s a good idea to push down on the mattress to see how firm it is.

Foam or coil mattresses serve the same purpose except that the coil ones are usually a little more expensive.  Make sure you choose an organic baby mattress constructed of organic cotton and wool as anything else will give off toxins that will be harmful to your child.  The foam mattress is easier to lift when changing the sheets but the coil one will probably be firmer.

organic crib sheetsBeginning the planning for the arrival of your baby is a very special and exciting time.  However, before leaping into buying crib bedding, there are some important facts to consider.  Seek out the safest, most durable and easiest to care for fabrics to make your life easier and baby’s the most comfortable it can be.

This would suggest looking at organic cotton fabric.  It will be softer and will have no chemical residue left behind by dying and bleaching.  Organic crib sheets are dyed with vegetable dyes and are free of chemical whiteners.  The fabric will be gentle on baby’s skin and will not cause the rashes and irritations that man-made materials will do.
