My husband and I are both new advocates of the eco-wellness programs that have been introduced in our community lately. We are now aware that contributing to the destruction of nature will not help us at all, and even our future children. That’s why lately; I have been finding ways to lessen our carbon footprint. I have started organic fertilizers from our leftover food and other biodegradable trash and of course, recycling.

But my latest discovery is the use of organic cotton sheets. These are sheets that are made from organic cotton. No pesticides and other harsh chemicals are used when making these kinds of sheets. Also, if you have allergies, these are the best sheets for you to use. Lastly, they are also very soft and you will feel like you are sleeping on clouds while lying in bed!

Joining the Bandwagon

There is an on-going trend on bed sheets these days and a lot of my friends have joined the bandwagon of people who are buying the latest in bed sheets and covers. I am a homemaker and I really do want the best for my family and our home. Though, sometimes, I am wary of trends because they can only become fads that come and go. I don’t like to spend my husband’s hard-earned money on something that would really not benefit us in the end.

But something about these bed sheets have really caught my attention. Aside from the fact that they are trending, we really do need new sheets for our beds. So one day, I went to the mall and asked around about the latest Egyptian cotton 1500 thread count sheets that my friends have been raving about. I learned that they are made from one of the highest quality cotton in the market and they are really soft, like sleeping on clouds as they put it. I saw one store selling them on sale and I bought one. When my husband and I slept on it for the first time, he told me to buy more. It’s been the first time I’m glad to join the bandwagon.

Comfort Bedding

There are different types of bedroom sheets with various degrees of comfort and durability. The most common type that is sold and available in a wide array of thread counts and weaves are cotton sheets. There are also bedroom sheets that are made from flannel that are thick and warm, while jersey sheets provide a soft and stretchable bed covering. Another option includes satin sheets, which are highly attractive, but not particularly comfortable to sleep on.

The majority of bedroom sheets are made from natural cotton threads, with the number of threads contained significantly affecting the overall softness and durability. Egyptian cotton is generally considered to be the softest and most durable variety of cotton today. Cotton bedroom sheets are also manufactured in several different types of weaves. Sateen weaves are very soft and smooth but provide little durability. A standard weave is often more durable but is less soft than sateen. Also available are twill weaves, which are soft, durable, and produce a smooth, wrinkle-free sheet.

Cloud-like Comfort in Your Bed!

My husband and I just got married and we are in the stage of shopping for new stuff for our newly-rented house. When I was still in the house of my parents, I would usually tag along with my mom when she buys things needed for our house. I had observed that she would always buy new bed sheets for our beds even after just a few years of using them. I think that it was a waste of money and I told myself that I wouldn’t do that when I finally settle down. But the question here is, HOW?

I have recently discovered Egyptian cotton bed sheets and through extensive research I have learned that authentic ones can last up to 40 years and is also very comfortable. Though it’s expensive, I risked our hard-earned money and bought one with a high thread count. At first I thought that it’s not very soft but I tried washing them a few times and it now feels like my husband and I are sleeping on clouds. It’s totally worth every cent and I will surely save up to buy a few more and I’m sure it would last until we get to buy our own house and have children.

Alternative to Expensive Egyptian cotton

If we want to be hardcore about our bed sheets there are a few things we should know. There is a world of difference between good quality sheets and average ones. Unfortunately, these differences are not always obvious. When we buy sheets, we feel the material, read the label and decide on what we feel and read. There is more to that if we really want the best in our sheets.

The best sheets are woven from long staples of fiber. Egyptian cotton is considered the finest because of their length of 1 3/8″. This provides the most luxurious softness and is very durable. But they are very expensive. Manufacturers have come up with something close. Pima cotton is woven from Egyptian cotton grown in the US. It has an average fiber length of 1 1/2”, very close to authentic Egyptian cotton. King size sheet sets made of pima can compete with those made of Egyptian cotton. And they are more affordable.

It has been demonstrated so many times. Many people still cannot get how to fold fitted sheets so it will look neat. I have my own easy way which I will describe in simple steps. It is best to have a large flat surface; so, why not the bed? Here we go:

1. Fold the fitted sheets into quarters allowing the curvy parts to fit into each other.

2. Lay it flat on the bed.

3. Fold one side at the point where the corners meet.

4. Fold the other side. You now have a rectangle.

5. Fold the rectangle lengthwise into three parts.

6. Fold it crosswise to the desired size.

You now have a perfectly folded fitted sheet without puffy wads.

Egyptian cotton sheets are considered the standard when it comes to high quality bedding. These sheets are referred to as the “king of all cottons” due to its luxurious feel as well as its durability. Egyptian cotton is a very breathable fabric, and an Egyptian cotton sheet will resist piling, as the cotton plants that are used to make it do not produce a lot of lint. Even though new Egyptian cotton sheets may start out a little coarse, they will become softer with each succeeding washing.

Egyptian cotton sheets are highly considered to be some of the finest sheets available. Because they can be made with very high thread counts, usually around a thousand threads per inch, they tend to sell for prices much higher than regular cotton sheets. It is common to pay well over $100 US dollars for an Egyptian cotton sheet set. The high price will be worth it in the long run because of the durability of these sheets. You can expect these sheets to last forty to fifty years, or even more.

Quality Sheets

Thread count is the number of individual fibers found in a square inch of fabric. One of the most common situations where the thread count is very important is in the manufacturing of bed sheets and other types of bedding material. An Egyptian cotton thread count is used for Egyptian cotton sheets which is considered the standard in high quality bedding. Egyptian cotton sheets are considered the “king of all cottons” because of its luxurious feel and durability.

Egyptian cotton is mostly made from a cotton plant called gossypium barbadense. It can also be made from gossypium hirsutum, which is another type of cotton plant. Egyptian cotton is widely known for its ability to create extra long staples, or fibers. These fibers can create thread that is thinner than other cottons because of their longer length. Thinner threads will result in higher thread counts, and the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the sheets will feel.

When you go shopping for bed sheets you often come across items on sale. Are discount sheet sets worth looking into? They are certainly worth looking into. They may not be of peak quality but if they are chosen with care you can come up with something you will be happy about. Sometimes, quality brands are put on sale when there are just a few pieces left and the store manager is raring to bring out newer merchandise.

When shopping for discount sheet sets, you should be doubly diligent in checking labels. It possible, go ahead and open the package if the store will allow it. It will be safer to buy discount sheets from stores that are known to carry a lot of beddings. They will be less likely to pass off damaged products. They will not ruin their reputation just to earn a few bucks more.

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile that is made from the pulp of the bamboo grass. This fabric has been growing in popularity because of the many unique properties it possesses. Bamboo fabric is also more sustainable than most textile fibers. There are king size bamboo sheets that are amazingly soft and similar to cashmere or silk. These sheets are 60% more absorbent than cotton and are designed to be extremely comfortable in all kinds of temperature.

Bamboo is considered one of the fastest growing plants because of its natural ability to absorb water making it a very environmentally friendly material. Bamboo sheets are the “Greenest Sheets” available in the market today. This is why bamboo sheets wick away so much water away from the body, keeping people dry and comfortable. Bamboo is grown without pesticides and is highly resistant to dust mites making bamboo sheets perfect for people with allergies and chemical sensitivity.
