The cutest and cheapest item may not be the safest. Make sure your baby bassinet is on the list of safe baby products, along with the bassinet sheets and bedding.

The U.S. Government sets standards for many children’s products. Quality manufacturers are required to safety-test these products. Sadly, several items are recalled every year due to safety problems. It won’t feel good to see anything in your nursery, including your bassinet, on the recall list.

Here’s how can you make sure a baby bassinet is safe. Look for the seal of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), a trade organization whose safety standards are much higher than those of the Federal Government. JPMA also gives tips on how to make sure you are purchasing quality items.
